Anthropometric measurement of the external nasal soft tissue in Iranian adult population

Nowadays the issue of defining a harmonious attractive face is very debatable. In the absence of anthropometric information about the normal face, all of the surgeons’ attempts are unintentional. Recently, a great deal of anthropometric studies about the face and nose have been done by researches in various countries. Considering the classic white-based concepts of facial and nasal beauty to patients of other racial/ethnic groups has several restrictions. Studies dealing with the face and nose in white, African American, Korean American, Latin, and Turkish populations have been performed, but to our knowledge, we are unaware of any study that has been done in the Iranian population. In plastic, reconstructive surgery and maxillofacial surgery, especially during cosmetic surgery or treating deformities, for example cleft lip and palate and syndrome deformities, most diagnoses and treatment planning have been made by visual inspection. Anthropometric measurements could lead to perform objective and quantitative evaluations of the deformities, make preoperative and postoperative assessments, and determining surgical strategies. The aim of this study was to measure and investigate the external nasal soft tissue in the young, healthy, Persian adults and to perform an profound analysis of the nasal measurements and proportion indices. The current study could provide credible and objective reference for the cosmetic nasal surgery.
