Fabrication of temporomandibular joint cartilage using PCL/Gelatin scaffold containing endometrial stem cells with 3D printing method and in vivo bioreactor
Summary of the necessity of project implementation
The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull. This joint consists of the mandible bone (lower jaw) and the temporal bone. TMJs are one of the most complex joints in the body. These joints, along with several muscles, allow the lower jaw to move up and down, side to side, and forward and backward. When the lower jaw and joints are properly aligned, muscle actions such as chewing, talking, yawning, and swallowing can be performed. But when these structures (muscles, ligaments, disc, jaw bone, temporal bone) are not aligned, or are not in coordinated movement, they may cause problems for the person.
