Comparison between nasalance score and acoustic parameters in children with cleft lip and palate and normal
Summary of the necessity of project implementation
It seems that children with cleft lip and palate increase their use of compensatory production patterns and increase their efforts to close the palato-pharyngeal valve and prevent air from coming out of the nose during vocalization (43). Therefore, it is not far from the expectation that these people experience different types of voice problems and hoarseness compared to healthy people, which we assume that the severity of these voice problems is related to the increase in hypernasality and the severity of dysequilibrium due to more effort to close the inputs of speech production. . As far as we have investigated, so far no study in Iran has investigated the correlation of voice parameters with Nisalance scores in children with cleft lip and palate. Also, if there is a possibility of more severe voice problems in these children, preventive activities are necessary, because if these problems are not identified in childhood, the possibility of their severity increases in adulthood, which can result in exorbitant costs for the family and the health system of the country. have Therefore, if this assumption is confirmed, one should not ignore the importance of examining voice condition and intensification and the relationship between them in children with cleft lip and palate in the process of evaluation, diagnosis, and recording treatment outcomes, which requires more comprehensive studies in this field. . Taking into account the mentioned cases and that our assumption is that the severity of these voice problems is related to the increase of hypernasality and the severity of non-equilibrium due to more efforts to close the speech production entries, as far as we have investigated, there is a correlation between the voice indicators and Nisalance scores in Persian-speaking children with cleft lip and palate have not been determined and are not known. This research is the first study in the field of investigating the correlation of voice quality and aggravation in children with cleft lip and palate in Iran.
