Examination of TFRC gene expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma patients in comparison with healthy people
Summary of the necessity of project implementation
Oral squamous cell carcinoma includes 95% of oral cancers. Also, OSCC is the sixth most common malignancy in the world, which is responsible for 3% of all cancers. Despite the advances made in the field of surgery and radiotherapy to treat this malignancy, the 5-year survival rate of this disease has not increased significantly. If this malignancy is detected in the early stages, the survival rate is between 60-80%. TFRC plays an important role in cellular iron uptake, and cellular iron deficiency inhibits cell growth and causes cell death. The purpose of this fundamental project is to investigate the expression changes of TFRC in OSCC and also to compare the expression changes of this gene in the Iranian population. It is hoped that with the results of this research, a step will be taken for early diagnosis of this lesion.
