Fabrication of hydrogel scaffolds by extrusion 3D printing method for cartilage regeneration
Summary of the necessity of the plan
Cartilage is a connective tissue that acts as a structural support in several areas of the body. Its main function is to maintain shape (ears, nose) and shock absorption (joints). There are three different types of cartilage in humans. At the biochemical level, the extracellular matrix contains collagen type II, aggrecan, keratin and chondroitin sulfate. Elastic cartilage is found in organs such as the ear, eustachian tube, larynx, nostrils, and epiglottis. Its function is the possibility of support and flexibility. These features are due to its high content of elastin and collagen. The third type is called fibrocartilage, which is limited to areas that require high resistance to the strength of fibrocartilage, II, such as interseal discs, sacroiliac and costochondral joints, or symphysis pubis. In addition to type II collagen, fibrocartilage also contains type I collagen.
