Investigation of the effect of hydrophilicity on the adhesion properties of bone adhesive based on polymethyl methacrylate
Summary of the necessity of project implementation
For the repair of bone fractures, it is necessary to place the bone fragments in their anatomical position and proper immobilization, which routinely uses metal plates, screws, and pins to do this. Considering the complications and limitations of using the fixation method with screws and plates, especially in craniofacial fractures, the use of alternative methods such as bone glues was proposed. One of the limitations of bone adhesives is hydrophobicity. Many studies have been done to correct this problem, but the ideal bone adhesive that is agreed upon by experts has not yet been introduced. In the present study, we are going to investigate the adhesion property of this bone glue on sheep mandible bone by adding hydrophilic monomers such as HEMA with different concentrations and acidic functional groups (COOH-).
