Summary of the Necessity of the Project

Compact bone contains a central cavity known as the bone marrow, which is lined with a membrane called the endosteum. Surrounding the bone is the periosteum, a protective layer that covers the entire surface of the bone. Spongy bones have variously sized cavities and incomplete Haversian systems. Bone marrow is a soft, highly vascularized tissue supported by a reticular connective tissue framework. This scaffold hosts various types of cells, including hematopoietic (blood-forming), blood, and fat cells. Bone marrow fills the medullary cavity of long bones and the spaces between the trabeculae of spongy bones. Bone marrow exists in two forms: red marrow and yellow marrow. Red marrow is rich in hematopoietic cells and is also referred to as myeloid tissue, whereas yellow marrow mainly consists of fat cells. Bone marrow is part of the immune system and plays a crucial role in the production of white blood cells, red blood cells, blood platelets, and plasma. With increased obesity, the number of fat cells rises, leading to a dominance of fatty tissue over hematopoietic (red) tissue. By controlling obesity, it is possible to increase and enhance the red bone marrow content.
